What to see at Reggia di Portici
The Reggia di Portici combines royal history with museum collections and botanical spaces. The MUSA museum complex brings together the Royal Apartment, the Herculanense Museum and the Botanical Garden, making it possible to build a visit around palace rooms, museum displays and plant collections.
The palace’s origins are traditionally linked to Queen Maria Amalia, who is said to have suggested a royal summer residence at Portici after she and the king took shelter there from a storm. Later, Joachim Murat had the palace refurnished in a French style. It was visited less frequently after Ferdinand II of Bourbon.
For a guided visit, the itinerary includes the Chinese Room, historical library and succulents greenhouse. The standard ticket excludes the succulents greenhouse.
